Mafia War

Before attending the Mafia Wars Meet the Family Event in San Fransisco, I was given a tour of Zynga Headquarters.  This was really cool and something I've always been curious about.  Zynga Headquarters is located in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Fransisco, California.  It's a beautiful building with lots of windows.  Here is a view from the back entrance.

With this page you will be able to get a better handle on what you have, what you need and what you can get rid of.
In order to better understand how the page works, we've included this quick video tutorial.

The new Mafia Wars home page layout has arrived and will gradually roll out to all players! The home page is now organized into modules and the Player Updates section has been moved to the My Mafia page.

1.  The Featured Event area at the top of the page will be a rotating promotional space dedicated to current events such as Gifting Events and Boss Fight Events.
This space also contains a Your Mafia Activity module which will house the Daily Take, and will feature player updates from your player update stream. Keep watching this space as it will update with new stories relating to your mafia members as well as fighting and robbing - even more types of social updates are planned for future releases.
 
2.  The Game Progress area will show your Energy Pack status and the last job you completed with an option to take you to that job. You can also see your completion percentages for your three most recent cities.
3.  The Build Your Empire area contains everything you need to stay on top of your Chop Shop, Weapons Depot, Armory and the brand new Private Zoo.  This module will let you build items and upgrade properties straight from the homepage! In addition there is a Limited Time item you will be able to build by sending and receiving special parts from your mafia.

A new property is coming to New York - we'll soon be introducing the Private Zoo! Here, you'll be able to produce new animals and unleash their power in your fights. Similar to the Chop Shop, Weapons Depot, and Armory, the Private Zoo will produce animals and will unlock a new animal each time you upgrade it one level.

Each day when you go to your zoo, you'll be able to collect "Animal Feed" that you'll use to build animals. You can collect your Animal Feed every 18 hours, and the amount of feed produced at your zoo will increase with its level. Not to mention, the more you upgrade your Zoo, the stronger the animals you’ll carry in fights, so there's lots of incentive to keep it growing. You'll need 5 different construction parts to set up your zoo - Terrarium, Animal Pen, Aquarium, Bird Cage, and Feeding Trough -  which you can get by sending requests and feeds to your mafia to help out or by directly purchasing.

Get your friends to rig the election for you in the upcoming Governor's Run! If you want to rise to power quickly, you'll need the help of your mafia members. Send out special invites to your mafia and make sure 9 people cast their vote for you. When you get 9 to show their support, you'll receive the limited edition item, 2nd Amendment, as your reward. With 52 attack and 80 defense, this weapon is sure to come in handy if you're ever in a jam. Remember to return the favor and accept invitations from your mafia as well. The 'Meet the Mafia Wars Family' fan gathering held in San Fransisco was a huge success.  As a long time fan of Mafia Wars, I was overwhelmed with excitement.  Just like the announcement promised, there were Mafia Wars players, Developers, games, prizes, photo opportunities, SWAG, inside scoops and much more!

Upon arrival, the first thing players saw was the infamous Mafia Wars Armored Truck.  Two of these vehicles used to exist, but one of them was blown up!  The surviving truck is definitely a crowd pleaser.

Mafia Wars players from all over the San Fransisco area and as far away as Cleveland, Ohio lined up and eagerly waited for the event to start.  Bach, a Mafia Wars Producer, interviewed the fans and made them feel welcomed.

All the fans were greeted by the friendly Community Management Team and were given a Zyngo Card. Players needed to interact and sign squares on each others cards.  You had to find players who fit one of the descriptions on a square.  The fan favorite was "Works On Mafia Wars".  It was a great way to break the ice and talk to players and Mafia Wars team members.  The winning players received a iPod touch.


A whole wall was dedicated to player feedback.  This was a chance for the fans to write down what they love about Mafia Wars, what they would like to see improved and to suggest the next city.


In between mingling, fans had opportunities to get a cool Mafia Wars themed photo taken and have Wesley, the Customer Support Manager look at their accounts and answer questions.





The highlight of the event came when Scott, The General Manager of Mafia Wars, got up on the stage and spoke to all the fans.  He stressed that the entire Mafia Wars team is working to make the game great and provide the best user experience.  He said what helps the most is getting genuine, constructive feedback from the players.  The most powerful statement made by Scott was when he said that the Mafia Wars Team would "Shape the future of the game through player feedback".  A glimpse into the very near future of the game was given when Scott announced three upcoming enhancements to the game.
1.  Missions (known as quests in the gaming world) will be added to the game.  These are small tasks that a player can perform to get incremental rewards as they progress in the game.
2.  The Mafia Wars home page lay out will soon change and will contain all the information players need to know where their character stands and where they can go.
3.  The Inventory Revamp project is well underway and the inventory page will be more organized and tell players what they need and what they don't need.  An exciting addition will be a feature that serves as a Pawn Shop and will allow players to have a use for the items they don't need anymore.  The goal is the give players a way to leverage all the items they have acquired throughout the game.  Scott stated that "Hopefully this system becomes a foundational aspect of the work we are progressing on related to trading".
Again Scott stressed that player feedback will be very important so improvements can be made on these features once they are implemented.

Once the big announcements were over, Jill the Community Manager of Mafia Wars, started another game.  This was a Mafia Wars trivia race in which all the participants broke up into teams and were required to answer questions about Mafia Wars.  These were not easy questions and an entire team was needed to answer some of them.  Two of the teams tied and all the winners received Mafia Wars game cards.

There was more mingling after the contest and then the event came to a close.  Everybody there had a great time and accomplished the goal of getting more mafia to join their family.  Jill, Nate, Victoria and Sandy are the Mafia Wars Community Management Team.  They did a great job of putting this event together and plan on having more in other cities.  In case you're wondering, Nate was attempting to make a "M" and a "W" with his right and left hands.

Nate and Jana Gucci of The Informant Podcast will be hosting a fan gathering in Denver, Colorado on December 21st.

Stay tuned, Mafia Wars Fans - It's almost time to "Forge Your Destiny" and celebrate the Armory!  New items will be added to the Armory and for 5 days, build 2 limited time Armory items called the Pantheon Tactical Plate and the Crimson Iron Chest Plate. This isn't the heavy metal of the 1980's. You'll need special parts called Tech Plates to get the job done.  Give and receive Tech Plates with free Tech Plate gifts and your news feeds.  To get this event started, the Godfather will supply you with enough Armory parts to upgrade your Armory one level.  The Armory crafting timer will also be cut in half so you will have plenty of opportunities to build your Man of Steel!
